Quyen's Day 5 Reflection: Kanap, Zion, and Cedar City

On the way to Zion Angela and I drove through Kanap, Utah where my East Bay, CA boss Frans is building a house to retire in. Before the trip I told Frans that we were making a trip through Zion and he said you’ll be passing through Kanap then and the one stop light that small town boasts. I didn’t quite believe him about the one stop sign. I took it as a sort of exaggeration about how small the town was. As we spotted signs for Kanap, Angela and I would yell out randomly, “Kanap!” as if that was our true destination and not just a point of interest. As we drove through Kanap, the one stop light Frans mentioned appears and we stare quizzically at the one stop light before moving on. Two each his own, they say. Two minutes after driving through the entire town of Kanap, we head out to Zion.

Zion National Park is just as majestic as the Grand Canyon, the main difference being that you can hike in the Zion Canyon while the Grand Canyon is meant more for picture taking. We hiked the lower Emerald Pool trail which was nicely shaded and far more of an actual hike than the Grand Canyon’s paved South Rim. Just like the Grand Canyon, this Park was full of European tourist though we spotted more Americans this time.

Do the Grand Canyon, yes. But I highly recommend hiking Zion National Park as well. It’s far more worth it.

As for Cedar City, Utah, it’s very much just another small town with palatable Chinese Food. But having gone three days without Asian food, it was time to be adventurous.

Tip of the day: Stay away from Chinese food in states that have no China Town.
